One Stage Microtia Reconstruction for Hemifacial Microsomia: Case 2
Description
This 16 year-old gal was born with severe hemifacial microsomia, grade 3 microtia and complete aural atresia. She has characteristic underdevelopment of the right side of her face, deviation of her jaw to her right, and placement of her ear remnant in the center of her cheek. Her ear was reconstructed in a single surgical stage. The photos on the right were taken 6 months postoperatively. Dr. Griffiths counsels patients with hemifacial microsomia to expect less of a result because of the associated deformities and tissue deficiencies. This gal also consulted with Dr. Griffiths for future jaw surgery to level and straighten her jaws, and future micro fat grafting to repair the soft tissue deficiency of her right cheek and jaw line.
