One Stage Microtia Reconstruction for Hemifacial Microsomia: Case 1
Description
Kevin was born with left hemifacial microsomia and grade 3 microtia with complete aural atresia. He has characteristic underdevelopment of the left side of his face, deviation of his jaw to his left, and placement of his microtia remnant in the center of his cheek. His ear was reconstructed in a single surgical stage. Some of his post op photos were taken at 10 months postoperative and others at nearly 2 years postoperative. Dr. Griffiths counsels patients with hemifacial microsomia to expect less of a result because of the associated deformities and tissue deficiencies. This child's ear shows variation in color which is occasionally seen in children with darker skin color.
